Baseball regionals are at Castlewood. As far as TV not being competitive in football I think it is a variety of things some of which you mentioned. It will be between Haysi and Honaker yet again in football.

I think alot of TV's problems in football is like you said a varitey of things one of which is the coaching i feel is not up to par with today's game. Some of the things they run are pretty basic and pretty predictable. Also you have to have a good feeder program and that i dont know about whether it is happening or what but something really needs to change there. I think they are getting away from the game of HS football and trying to install to much of something someone has seen at a pro or college level and it is not working. When you run a D like i seen them try to run with the guys they have it make me throw my hands in the air and say ??? I seen them against haysi and they had the corners and linebackers on the line of scrimage and one saftey really deep so what happens they get passed on with slants and over the middle to the TE all day then you have the fact that no one was wrapping up and if the RB gets passed the line of scrimmage it is all day to run. Also the corners are so close and LB's also anything to the outside is wide open with the WR blocking just a bit is all you need because your LB's are all inside the tackles almost. I dont know if i am making any sense but hey it is hard to explain something that doesnt make sense in the first place. Head Coaching Change would be a great start. What i am more dissapointed about is the base ball team, Garden always had a few guys that were good and WHitewood used to be very competitive in baseball, so i have no clue what is the deal there. Basketball will be decent next season also and should give a good run with honaker in the district i think.

Yeah Whitewood was always tough in Baseball. Don't know why TV can't get it going. I do expect it will be between them and Honaker for the BDD basketball crown next year with the slight edge going to TV in my opinion...not really sure what Council has coming up but Haysi will probably be pretty bad.

It should definitely come down to Haysi and Honaker once again in football with the edge at this point going to Haysi. I believe Haysi has a few more key players coming back than Honaker but it will still be competitive as always especially with the Orange Tigers hosting. Haysi will return a couple of starting O-lineman and their promising young TE(Joe Yates) as well as their starting QB, FB and a WR on offense. On defense they will have Chad "don't call me the mortician" Barton returning to the secondary after an All State junior season. They also will return Lance Compton to his outside linebacker position and Caleb Powers should fit in nicely at the middle backer. They will be rather thin on the DL and will need a couple of young guys to step up. Joe Yates will probably need to make an impact as a DE or DT and Josh Edwards will probably need to step over on the defensive side as well. I know Honaker lost alot and probably only return 3 or 4 starters total combined on offense and defense...but they have enough numbers to find some guys who can play and they will be hungry after last years playoff shallacking at Haysi.

Keep in mind Haysi lost some very talented players off last years team so by no means to I expect another Region D title but I do expect them to win the BDD.

Actually if you got arrested in Honaker you wouldn't go to Duffield you would actually go to Abingdon Jail...if you got arrested in Dickenson County you would go to the Haysi Jail...Duffield covers Wise, Scott and Lee County.

Well when I played (88-92) the Tiger Bowl was just another game for us...we usually handled Honaker pretty easily. Prior to the '99 season Honaker had only beaten Haysi like twice in the history of the series, so there really wasn't much of a rivalry until the turn of the century...since then it has been back and forth. Our biggest district game in the era that I played was usually Hurley...Garden also wasn't bad. Honaker typically finished 3rd or 4th in the district. They had good athletes but they were considered soft and didn't really hit anybody. The only guy who would really stick you back then was Shawn "Goober" Compton who was one of the best linebackers in BDD history and probably the best Honaker has ever had.
